At 70ft in length, the Sunrise is a large, stable diving platform, self-contained, with all facilities close at hand; and one of the most comfortable live-aboard in the Islands. Sunrise veterans will know that this heavy boat feels only the slightest effects of bad weather ensuring that we can generally get out and find a dive site in the worst of days. (Not that there’s many of course!)
The Sunrise is based in Stromness but can operate anywhere within the island group, travelling wherever whimsy takes you. We will endeavour to visit some of the numerous different harbours or jetties within Scapa Flow during our lunch break or overnight. Most places we visit have easy access to pubs or hotels which sell good bar food, and shops for provisioning along with many points of interest enabling you to see more of Orkney. Please click here for more information about how to travel to Orkney and here for more general information about Orkney.
The week's diving begins on the Sunday morning and you would expect to fit two dives, a break and travelling into any eight hour period. By staying in comfort aboard the boat, you have complete freedom of movement. There are no requirements making you get up early as the boat can be on the dive site before you get out of your bunk. All without the extra cost of bed and breakfast!
Half board or self-catering options are available. The Half board consists of breakfast and lunch. Before leaving harbour in the morning, we serve cereals, toast and coffee/tea. After the first dive around lunchtime we serve a full cooked breakfast/lunch.
Vegetarian or other special dietary requirements catered for, please inform us when you book.
Vessel Layout and Accommodation
The boat is laid out on two levels: under the Shelter deck is the day accommodation whilst below are the cabins and engine room.
The vessel can comfortably accommodate a maximum of 12 people. The accommodation consists of six twin berth cabins, and one single cabin all accessible from a central corridor on the lower deck. Each cabin has hot and cold water ensuite, are fully carpeted and are heated by hot water radiators.
All that is required is to take your own sleeping bag, towel, and toiletries and clothing. We supply a bottom sheet and pillow and can supply duvets if you have forgotten your sleeping bag.
On the upper deck there is a saloon, galley, drying room and changing area before you reach the fully enclosed shelter deck.
There are two showers and two toilets to avoid the morning and post dive rush!
For your entertainment apart from the wild stories there is a TV, video and stereo with a darts board for the more sporty!
