The “Remaining” Wrecks

SMS Konig PhotoSMS König

SMS stands for "Seiner Majestät Schiff”, or in English His Majesty’s Ship.

The 25, 797 tonne SMS König was the lead ship of the German line at Jutland where she suffered no less than ten major calibre and five or six medium calibre hits, substantial flooding and numerous casualties.

The König was extensively salvaged in the post war period with blasting operations opening up her hull and superstructure. As a result, she may not look as majestic as the Markgraf, but it is possible for the experienced and cautious to see much more of her internal detail. At 43 metres this is an advanced technical dive for those with wreck diving experience.
